What is a blog?

The dictionary defines a blog as a regularly updated website or web page, typically run by an individual or a small group, written in an informal or conversational style. On the other hand, Wikipedia states that a blog is a discussion or informational website published worldwide. It consists of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries. Why read blogs?

Concept Building for Babies, Toddlers and Children

I have previously written a piece about How Learning Happens.  Generally, I discussed how learning happens in a baby as he grows up.  I have also given tips on how to make the learning process fun for you and for your older child.  Read it now by clicking here.  Today, I want to zero in on how our babies, toddlers and children learn lessons – those that are taught in school and other supplemental classes we have sent them to (musical instruments, abacus, martial arts, painting, among others).  In OT, we usually refer to these as Concept Building.

Our Soul in Life and in Death

Seventeen months into the pandemic and my little circle of family and friends have been struck with more and more blows recently. A friend, a friend’s mother, my brother’s friend, a friend’s father, my neighbour and a friend’s sister. Period, please come and stay here. Albeit, not due to covid, they left during its terrible, terrible time, when both life and death have been tough to deal with. Lord, save our soul!

Things I Wish I Knew in My Twenties: A Letter to My Son in 2031

I was actually thinking about being 50 in the next 10 years.  This made me think about the son who will be doubling his age by then.  So I made a list of what I want to tell him when he has or is around graduating college.  I hope that he (and other people in their twenties) finds, considers, and heeds bits of wisdom I can offer in this 2031 letter I am writing for him today at 2021.

Learning Life Skills

What are Life Skills?  Simply put, these are living skills or the skills you need to live your life.  Skillsyouneed.com defines the term better as the skills you need to make the most out of life.  As parents, we certainly have a set of life skills we have been using through the years.  We take care of ourselves, our household, and our loved ones on a day-to-day basis.  All these we can do because we have been equipped with life skills in one way or another.  So, how do we pass these on to our kids?  How do we get them at learning life skills?

High Blood Pressure: What Causes It?

bird cherry, flowers, branch

I cannot forget the time when my mom had a terrible, terrible nose bleed.  She was hypertensive and on maintenance medications for it.  As she related, that day was particularly different.  She felt unusually hot and light-headed upon waking up.  Then, a throbbing headache ensued at around noon.  She was trying to relax when she leaned in to get a magazine, suddenly, blood rushed out from her nose!  Our aunt described it like it was the tap, turned on to full.  She was rushed to the hospital and had to stay there for a week.  According to the doctor, it was a near-stroke experience, caused by her high blood pressure.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a relatively common term.  You might have heard it from your mom, uncle, or you might have experienced it first-hand.

Five Days Into Self-Love

moon, woman, silhouette

In this lifetime, how many times have you loved and cared for something or someone?  And how much of yourself did you commit to it or him or her?  More often than not, we give more of ourselves to others than to our very selves.  We tend to the well-being of our loved ones and our priced possessions while neglecting our needs.  Fortunately, in this day and age, there are people who remind us to take a break and listen to our core.

What’s Special About Turning 40?

birthday cake, burn, candles

There has always been a buzz about turning 40.  Some people call it big 40 and the phrase “Life starts at 40” could not be any more popular.  Well, I have recently turned 40.  Today, I have lived for exactly 40 years and a week. I spent the days that led me to this number by figuring out what’s special about turning 40.  In the next few weeks, months and years, I know I will appreciate it more. Today, I just want to take a snapshot of how I feel while I am fresh in my 40s.

The pandemic and the quarantine protocol were on my side as it gave me a great acumen about life.  This is my second birthday in quarantine, meaning I, as most people I know have, spent more than a year at home, tinkering with mundane stuff, going through a very limited routine and doing a bunch of insightful activities I can think of.  Either way, I think I would have thought about it deeply just the same even without being quarantined.

Here are my thoughts, and tidbits of wisdom you might find useful.  What’s special about turning 40?  Being 40…
